Altopascio

Altopascio is a historic stop on the Via Francigena: in the Middle Ages the Knights of Tau welcomed pilgrims bound for Rome here, and the bell known as "la Smarrita" (the Lost One) rang every evening to guide those who had lost their way in the woods.

Today you can walk or cycle the same trails, and stop to taste the bread of Altopascio, baked to the traditional recipe.
